SINGAPORE. 20 OCTOBER 2024.

The plane lands shortly after 8 am. We pass quickly through the electronic gates and the bags soon arrive. We ask at Tourist Information about public transport which takes longer than it should because a Chinese woman arrives and proceeds to shout at everyone seemingly about her suitcase. The bus is the simpler option and drops us about 500 metres from the hotel. It seems like a mile in the heat.

We check in early and are really pleased to be given complementary early access to the room. Despite our best intentions, we both fall asleep for 3 hours.

Once we’ve come round, we take a bus and the metro into the city. We find Gardens by the Bay and walk around the gardens.

We learn that the laser light show starts at 7:45pm. We arrive with an hour to go and already the area is filling up.

The show lasts for about 15 minutes and is quite spectacular.

We return on the metro, where we meet a local guy who tells us that he went to Sandhurst on an army scholzrship. He gives us some good pointers for tomorrow.

Next to our hotel there is a Viet street restaurant so we call in for dinner. The food is very good, but more so Rosie is delighted to learn that they sell coconut water straight from the nut.
