SINGAPORE. 1st NOVEMBER 2024.
We're both wide awake at 3:30 am. Rosie makes tea then we doze fitfully until 9 am. We take breakfast at a trendy restaurant close to the hotel. You can tell that it's trendy from the menu prices. As we leave, a bus arrives causing us to run for it. Not a good idea in this heat.
We leave the metro at The Gardens again. This time we go into the shopping mall. It even has a mini canal running through it with boats for hire.

Downtown, we're struggling with the map until a well spoken Swiss gentlemen offer us his help. We take in the area around Raffle's Landing, the Parliament building and St Andrew's Cathedral. At the latter, we mistake the Welcome Office for a cafe. They take pity on us and give us a free cup. Then, on to Raffle's Hotel. The length of the queue puts us off waiting for a Gin Sling. Probably just as well at SGD 45, £25 in sterling.

On the Bus back to the hotel, a local stares at us for a long time. Finally, he asks where we're from. It turns out that he's a chemical process engineer.
We head to Little India for the evening. It's Deepavali, so everywhere is lit up. We wander around taking in the sights and smells. We eat at a busy cafe. Two curries and a bootle of water are rung up at SGP 2.60. Even at the correct price of SGP 22.60, it was excellent value.
