It'll Take More Than A Roadblock....

KEKAVA.

The sun is shining again this morning but the temperature hasn't improved. Drive into Latvia and stop at a petrol station to check if we need a vignette. We don't need one so celebrate with a coffee. It is beginning to hailstone as we continue.

Our mission is to find the Speedy Queen laundrette on the outskirts of Riga. We're making good progress until we need to cross a bridge over the railway. The bridge is closed by police cars parked across the road at the bottom. It will take more than a police roadblock to stop Rosie when she needs to do the laundry. Ignoring satnav, we find an alternate crossing.

A young couple use their phone to give us final directions, we decide that the Latvians are friendlier than the Lithuanians. It is self service but has an attendant who, again, is very helpful. 2 hours later there are no cleaner clothes in Latvia.

Our campsite is supposed to be 10km outside the city. It seems longer in rush hour traffic. The site is about 2 miles outside of the town so offers no facilities nor access to a bus into the city. We were planning on staying here two days but change our plans to one. Shortly after we settle down, three Finnish motorhomes arrive, then a couple more Van's. It is either popular or there aren't many sites in the area.

We go for a walk before dinner. A small housing estate and a fishing lake seem to be the major aspects of the area.

The facilities are Bohemian to say the least. There isn't even a door on the showers, they are separated from the kitchen by a curtain. There is no way that Rosie is going to have a shower there if the temperature drops to -2
