SOUSTONS.

Awake before the alarm and on the road by 8. Arrive at the venue by 8:25. Shortly after parking, a female Australian asks if this is parkrun. It transpires that they are from Brisbane and visiting their son who lives in Bordeaux. A young lad then appears who has travelled 2.5 hours from his mum and dad's house in France. Finally a second motorhome appears also bearing a GB plate. They are from Northampton. The woman tells Rosie that she intends to walk so Rosi joins her and completes her first parkrun in 56 minutes 37 seconds. Unfortunately, we didn't register her so she shows as "Unknown". Oh, and I came second behind the young lad. Only 6 minutes behind him.

We program the satnav to avoid motorways. So, we drive through the docks and then along the Dourdogne to Bordeaux. It's a lovely city, well worth a visit on another day. However, it makes for slow going. None of the numerous traffic lights are synchronised.

Lunch is taken on the banks of a river in Biscarrosse. We were hoping to find the beach but failed.

We arrive in Soustons about 5pm. The choice of site is a mistake. It attracted me because it is sandwiched beteeen a lake and the Atlantic. I failed to read that it takes 82 vans. By the time we arrive, there are only 9 places left and the ones that are available have no access to electricity. Still, we walk to the sea and stroll along the beach. The sun is hazy in the sky and the reflection shimmers in the sea. The waves are high and crashing to the shore. It's very bracing.

I meet a lady at the recycling point. She's from Halifax but living in France. She wants an electric bike show I get Rosie to talk to her.
