WANGEN IM ALLGAU.
A long day's drive is ahead of us so it's a good job we got a good night's sleep. The sun is shining so I go for a run around the local area. There's a sports centre and communal beaches which aren't obvious from the main road.
The van emptied and filled we set off at 11:15. Driving through Belgirate, we remember Pierre from the wedding night. His trousers were too long so he'd turned them up on the outside. Not too unusual, but as the night went on, and he had more to drink, his left trouser leg was turned up to the knee!
Driving along the road alongside the lake gave us some stunning views. The views continued as we passed the border into Switzerland.

The flat lakeside soon gave way to the Alps and we passed back through the San Bernardino tunnel. Stopped on the far side for lunch. There is still snow on the high peaks.

Our destination at Zizers turns out to be in the grounds of a motorhome specialist. We decide to move on and strike out for Germany. There is congestion through one of the tunnels. An information loop is sent through the van radio in Swiss, Italian, German and English. The toilets at one stop are weird. The bowl is huge and collects the hardware as well. The flush works by the seat returning to the "up" position. Pass alongside Lake Constance and through the local towns which are throbbing with holiday makers. Diesel in Austria costs less than £1.10 per litre so take the opportunity to fill the tank.
Wangen im Allgau turns out to be a little gem. The town is mentioned as early as the ninth century. It is full of cobbled streets and little alleyways. The bookshop boasts of selling books since the mid 16th century. Rosie wants to know how many were sold as not many people could read then.

The site is next to a sports centre. There is a toilet but it is operated on a keypad. However, a young Asian boy of about 5 shows me how to get in. And the code works both ladies and gents. He's proud of himself but not as half as proud of him as I am.
