Call That Full?

NUREMBERG.

Up and off by 8:30. We'd been warned that road works were expected outside the gate. The card works but we're turned back by a workman. A long diversion follows.

It's a long driving day, 250 miles. After 4 hours, Rosie suggests that we visit a lake she spots from the motorway. Talsperre Pohl is just outside Plauen. Enjoy lunch and a swim.

On to Nuremberg, the free site is well signposted. That's the good news, the bad news is that it's full. Until Rosie manages to navigate me into a space squeezed between two vans and a tree.

We find the start of the run and celebrate with a couple of beers in the cafe. On the way back I'm still wearing sunglasses, mind, but it looks like there's a chicken in one of the vans. It turns out to be the head of a woman from the back. Must be strong beer in these parts. Also , we spot two people on hammocks under the railway line.

The occupants of the van behind are Brits, although they've lived in Spain for 26 year's working on the markets. They're into home schooling but the Spanish authorities aren't. So they're travelling to find a country that is.

It's showing 33 degrees in the van so we have a simple meal of salmon, mozzarella and tomatoes. Go for a walk because it's too hot to stay in the van.

Talk to the family on the way back. The two older children show me their souvenirs, a collection of maps, coins and tickets. A young Italian calls by to say hello. He's just back from from visiting England and loves it and wants to share it with us.
