Pleasantly Surprised by Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN.

We're heading for Denmark by 11am. I take a wrong turn on the motorway which works in our favour. The corrective manoeuvre takes us past McDonald's. So we use up our Swedish coin on an early lunch.

The crossing from Sweden to Denmark is a combination of bridge and tunnel which takes 19km and costs SEK860.

We leave the motorway by the airport. We find the parkrun venue and tomorrow's parking spot. Unfortunately, the city centre campsite cannot be found. At least one fellow motorhomes is having the same problem, we keep bumping into them. Return to tomorrow's site. We walk around looking at what's available. A Dane stops us and says"Ask me anything, I know everything". He tells us about a beach 400 metres away and the Metro station about 800 metres away. We sunbathed on the beach and swim. There is no taste of salt so we must be in an estuary. Unfortunately, Mr Know It All has gone home so we can't confirm it.

Catch the train into Copenhagen. Discover on the way back that they are driverless. Walk from the station into the busy streets. One such is full of revellers sat on artificial grass eating and drinking .

Walk on to the harbour to see the Little Mermaid, a journey of 2.5 km. The guide book tells us that It's disappointing but we like it.

Walk back to the tram, call in at LIDL and back at the van by 9:45. There seems to be an industry developing in Scandinavia around recycling bottles and cans. We notice a number of people rummaging around in bins collecting empties and taking then back to supermarkets to collect the deposits.

At 11:50 a thunderstorm starts and We're treating to an hour of thunder and lightning most of it sounding like it is overhead. The rain bounced down for a further hour.
