Staying for free in South Holland.

GRAVESANDE, SOUTH HOLLAND.

The landlord suggested yesterday that we should leave by 7am. This seems early but we don't think that he realised that the ferry leaves an hour later on a Sunday. We leave at 7:30 and, following his instructions, we have an easy journey along the back roads to the port. Strike lucky with the lane I'm allocated which means we're one of the first to board. It backfires of course because it means that we're one of the last to disembark.

Sat next to Dutch couple who also stayed at the Strangers Home last night. They suggest buying a battery from Kwik Fit. Rosie believes we should use a campervan expert to get the right thing. Wrong again, see later in the week.

Also sat next to a couple from Hambourg, he explained that she has Parkinson'. We engage in conversation and he offers to show us his city if we're passing. And, we can park outside his house.

Voyage passes quite quickly considering that it is 7 hours long. Rosie has weaved her magic again in finding a cheap car park along from the Hoeck of Holland in Gravesande. We walk along the beach, the highlight being watching a Dutch woman attempting to fly a kite and walking backwards into a hole in the sand created by her children, then enjoy dinner at the Oase Restaurant. A set meal of three courses. Rosie picks the meat option. The waitress insists that it is beef but we check the translation and confirm that it is pork!

A German family arrive as we're bedding down. They'd had a bad experience earlier with a Dutchman. He been abusive telling them that people don't just park for free in Holland.
