A Generous Race (Once You Clear Customs)!

KRVAVICA.

The ferry loudspeaker wakes us abruptly at 6:45 am. We disembark at 8am. Unlike previous ferries, we have to clear passport control and customs. I pick the wrong lane by following a French motorhome, there is a height restriction. He cut up a coach. I pulled in front of a lorry whose driver got very upset and cursed me and drove around me using his size to regain his place. A rather obese man with a temper issue, a heart attack waiting to happen!

We struggle to get out of Split then finally head south. We start with Dugi Rat. The campsite is closed so we pull into the centre for a coffee. Sit next to two American women who we strike up a conversation with. They're here for two weeks and are driving through Bosnia. Interesting, the different takes on the war zone, they were oblivious to it. We swap addresses in case we're ever in Plymouth, California.

Next we tried Baska Voda because it looks good in the brochure. A low bridge keeps us away from the centre and the campsite is closed.

Finally, we see a sign to Krvavica. Where, again, the campite is closed.

However, the following sign is on the door;

Fantastic generosity.

We walk to the next village for provisions including 2 pints of drinking yoghurt instead of milk. On the way back, we say hello to four workmen. They insist on sharing their cheese, meat and wine with us. The leader spent time in Australia so speaks excellent English. One of the others has a daughter at Leeds University. Leeds seems to be his only English word.

Later in the afternoon, we go for our first swim since leaving home. The water is freezing, we stay in for only a few minutes.

Finish the day with a nightcap at the harbour watching the incredible sunset full of pinks and oranges. A dog there looks just like a sheep even down to absence of a tail.
