Goodbye to Greece

IGOUMENITSA.

A slow day as we await the ferry just before midnight.

We spend the morning at the campsite puttering about.

The port is only 6 miles away, so we're there before 1pm. A minor concern as the sat av tells us to turn around as there is a weight limit ahead. Rosie wants to ignore it but I try to drive around it. We'll miss the satnav's take on Greece. She can't pronounce the Greek so spells out the letters using the Greek alphabet. On some roads, we're on to thw next turn before she has finishing spelling the last.

We get coffee and a cheese pastry and plan the rest of the day. We think that we need more gas so get instructions to a supermarket which sells. Needless to say, the fittings aren't the correct ones so we are no further forward.

We park up and spend an hour looking around the shops. Purchase new sandals from a Chinese shop for the princely sum of 5 euro.

We find a beach on the outskirts of the town called Dragon's Beach and while away an hour.

We discovered a Lidl earlier so we stock up and return to the beach to cook dinner.

During our earlier walk we found a water supply to fill up on the way to the port.

On to the port. We fail to check in so we're turned around to found the terminal. We're on ANEK Lines this time. Rosie can't drive through customs with me, she has to walk through security. Unlike the ports at Dover & Bari, security is tight. I have to open the boot, where Ross's riding helmet is scrutinised, and the door. The guy wants to know where we've been and can't get over that we sleep in the van. (The bed is full of bags and the bathroom, water and gas.)

I can see Rosie in the waiting area but can't get in so have to phone.

We queue at 9pm, the ferry arrives at 11:30pm. I watch a guy in charge of the fire boat fishing from the stern.

It's amazing how quickly the heavy lorries are loaded. A brief panic as I lose my tickets. The guy points out the wallet displayed prominently on the dashboard, doh!

Drive up a scary ramp and have to manoeuvre into a tight position for the night.
